Pondering Cremation NFS - Artist's collection oil on linen Nepal's most important Hindu temple stands on the banks of the Bagmati River near Kathmandu The Bagmati is a holy river, and, as at Varanasi on the Ganges, this burning ghats in front of this temple in Pashupatinath is an important place to be cremated, and also a place of ritual bathing. During my visit there were three cremations in progress and we watched with awe and respect, along with this monkey.
